July marks a special anniversary for me. A year ago this month, I made the decision to join Weight Watchers. SURPRISE! Over the last year, I have been on my personal weight loss journey. A journey that I have had many failures but also many successes during. I am so happy to have been a part of a community that was empowering, supportive, and inspirational. I was really nervous starting out of course, because I know that weight is viewed differently by everyone. The thought of going to a meeting where I would see and meet others who were also wanting to improve their health and lifestyles was intimidating.
Joining a weight loss program may be embarrassing to some, and even more embarrassing to openly talk about to others, but I am so thankful for this journey and feel very comfortable being honest in hopes that it helps others! Don’t be afraid to do what you need to do for yourself to feel good and live a healthy lifestyle! No one is perfect, everyone has setbacks, and the timelines are not set in stone. Take your time taking care of your body – future you will thank you! I chose to join Weight Watchers because I have never had an interest in the gym atmosphere. I’ve tried to be active and dedicate myself to working out but always fell short of my goals. So for those of you who are like me, Weight Watchers may be a good program!
Everyone I met while on my journey with Weight Watchers was so welcoming and encouraging and I never felt judged or belittled which was a fear of mine going into it. The resources in both the online and in-person meetings were beneficial and the Smart Point system was easy to navigate and understand. I fell off the wagon quite a few times and there were times I would weigh in and have a GAIN in my book but with each step forward, even if there was one backwards, I kept on moving! With Weight Watchers I had the tools to learn and track what I could consume in a day, I never restricted myself or starved myself of things I love; I still was able to dine out, eat chocolate, and enjoy the guilty pleasures of carbs! I learned what portion control is and began enjoying to meal prep and have since then fallen in love with cooking and am getting better at it by each meal I attempt! There are many resources out there to encourage healthier living whether it be strictly your diet or a mixture of both diet and exercise.
I’m not where I’d like to be just yet but I am very pleased with what I’ve accomplished in the last year. Sometimes it may be hard to remember, but good things take time! I can hardly believe it’s already been a year and can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
